Personal Care Applications Laboratory

Brenntag Specialties, Inc., a premier specialty ingredients distributor to the cosmetics industry, is  pleased to announce the dedication of a new Personal Care Applications Laboratory at their South Plainfield, New Jersey headquarters.  Mr. Bret Horace - Marketing Director - Regulated Industries, will oversee this new facility in addition to their existing Color and Analytical Laboratories, also on site.  The addition of Ms. Christina Morgan, Personal Care Applications Specialist, provides over 10 years of personal care formulation experience in hair and skin care.  She brings with her exceptional skills and knowledge in creating prototype formulas and customer formulation solutions.

Natural cosmetics is a trend that will only grow in importance as consumers become more savvy about the ingredients they eat as well as what they put on their skin.  Brenntag Specialties plans to be at the forefront of the natural market segment by offering customers novel natural ingredients and assistance in formulating with them.  This new, fully equipped applications laboratory will focus on personal care formulations, while intending to promote new ideas and concepts as consumer demands change.

The primary goal of the Personal Care Applications Lab is to develop starting formulas for the skin care and hair care markets.  Special samples are prepared and offered to our customers.

Formulators interested in learning more about Brenntag’s expanded capabilities in North America, or obtaining samples, can contact their local Sales or Customer Service Representative.

The main purpose of the Applications Lab is to assist customers with existing formulas or, the development of new formulas.  Customers may contact their local Sales Representative to discuss assistance from BSI in developing new formulas or assist in refining or re-formulating existing formulas.  This service may help the chemist or formulator accelerate time to market of new products.

Pictured to the right is a typical kit containing various prototypes of finished skin care or hair care formulas.  Each sample kit contains the prototype plus a recipe card which notes the procedure for mixing and the ingredients list.  Samples are packed in a clear poly bag for easy shipping and storage.

Prototypes are packaged according to application, such as pump sprays, brush applicators or squeeze bottles.  Please note that the prototypes are intended for use as starting formulas only and may be altered or modified as needed.

Prototypes are easily identified by the product labels affixed to the container.  Each label denotes the name, BSI code number and the date of manufacture.  When space allows, the ingredients and percentages are listed on the back of the container. 

Prototypes undergo stability testing at 40^OC for a period of three months.

In addition to prototype kits and recipe cards, formulary sheets are available (in print and electronic versions) which place an emphasis on the new (or newer) ingredients which are used in any given formula.  It is the intent of BSI to produce starting formulas using unique products we represent in the market place.
