Technical Services

The Technical Services Department consists of eight individuals that strive to provide quality service to our customers and sales personnel.  The members of this department and an overview of their responsibilities are as follows: Karl Gordon is the Technical Services Manager and is responsible for supervising and coordinating all of the activities of the applications, analytical and color laboratories, along with the sample room.  He also assists customers in making product recommendations and answering technical questions.

Frank McGonigle is the Technical Information and Regulatory Affairs Manager.  Frank is responsible for ensuring company compliance with federal, state and local regulations along with providing technical information on products to customers and company personnel.  He is also the ISO Management Representative and REACH Coordinator for the company.  Terri Yajuga is the Laboratory Secretary.  She ensures that all certificates of analyses are placed on our computer system and that all analytical and technical letter files are maintained.  Terri also handles customer inquiries for routine technical information.

Technical Services operates three types of laboratories: Applications, Analytical and Color.  The Application Labs are our newest labs, and their main purpose is to effectively service the technical and formulary needs of the specialty oriented Personal Care and ACES business.  Next is our Analytical Lab where we conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses on materials for the purpose of quality control, while providing product support for sales and marketing.  Our newest piece of laboratory equipment is the Horiba LA-950 Laser Scattering Particle Size Distribution Analyzer which can analyze particles in the range of 0.01 to 3,000 microns.  Lastly, our Color Lab is used to provide technical support for sales and BSI Cosmetic Ingredients by evaluating new and competitive colors and blends. 

Jay Patel is BSI's Analytical Chemist,  and is responsible for conducting all of the required testing on USP/FCC products that BSI certifies.  He also does GMP testing on selected vendor products that are purchased and already certified as well as routine testing of customer complaints.

Kailas Patel is our Color Chemist and is responsible for testing all of BSI’s Cosmetic Ingredients and blends.  She is also responsible for evaluating new and competitive colors, making up lab blends of surface treated products and evaluating customer requests for new, improved or replacement color and blends.

We recently upgraded our ColorSoft color matching system software which is used in evaluating pigment colors in masstone and tint.
